CES 2010 LAS VEGAS Ebook Readers

No doubt going to the Consumer Electronics Show this year was exciting! Our main mission… to see all the new E-Book Readers that have blasted on to the market in an attempt to compete with the Kindle and Sony, which are already doing quite well.

Everyone involved is aware of the fact that the market for these new Readers has barely been touched, leaving much room for the competition. But can they even come close to what the Kindle and Sony have presented to us thus far?

First of all, there are companies that we’ve barely even heard of that are in on the act and more manufacturers that have been around for years trying to jump into action. We actually found a great deal of new advances in E-Book Readers that are definitely turning heads. For Example:

How about an E-Book Reader that you can write on, and then save for future reference? This one might catch the attention of those of you who wondered about how to do your crossword puzzle on one…well, it’s coming! Another perk will be the ability to access new reading material from any format you choose.

Barnes & Noble have even gotten in on the act! Their’s has a color touch screen and you can highlight passages and add bookmarks and notes! There are 1,000,000 titles to choose from. It keeps up to 1,500 books, newspapers and magazines. They call it “Nook”.

*Honorable mention- The “Entourage Edge” is a multimedia organizer that combines the readability of an e-book reader with the service you get with a tablet notebook. Bigger than the other E-book Readers, the entourage edge is actually a dual book with 2 sides to use, opening like a book. The attraction is the ability to store files and share them with other users! And get this…you can run hundreds of Android-based applications, with new applications being developed as we speak! It has the dual functionality to enable you to read and surf at the same time! There is so much more to tell about this one, I will present a special section later!

Another one called “Liquavista” has the technology that changes the way we interact with mobile phones, media players, e-book readers and more. Their displays create bright and colorful images and use less battery power. I feel you’ll soon be hearing more about them.

Another one called “Jetbook” by Ectaco has similar advantages that other e-book readers have including the ability to upload MP3’s onto it. You also have the choice of portrait viewing or landscape.

Hanvon has their version- “Wisereader” has multiple file formats & functions supported, Text: PDF, EPUB, HTML, DOC, CHM, FB2, MOBI, TXT. Image: JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP. Audio: MP3, WAV, WMV.
It can support up to 32 GB and has handwriting technology with high recognition rate to enjoy your handwriting. It also has a graphics tablet for Art creation, animation, photo editing and more. There are 2 models, making the handwriting feature an option.

A company called “Jinke” has created what appears to a line of e-book readers which compete well with the competition. They have several models, one with Wifi-3G, and others which supports all the formats available. A 3.5mm stereo audio-jack is provided for earphone use.

Then there’s the “Cybook” which claims to be the thinnest reader on the market, measuring 0.3 inches or (7.6mm). It weighs just 8 ounces. It has 2GB storage to carry 2,000 books. It claims to enable you to read up to 20 books on one battery charge. They even have one that only weighs 5.3 ounces called “Balzac”. They come in a multitude of bright colors that I think will appeal to younger readers as well.

“Cool-er” has all the desired features and claims to have an “Inbuilt MP3 player”-didn’t we used to call that… “built in” ? Anyway their devices are also Windows and Mac compatible. Their e-book allows 10 books on one battery charge.

“Let a Mentor enlighten your Life” is what Astak is saying about their new 6” ebook reading solution. It even comes with a Sudoku game! They have another one called “6” EZ Reader” which allows 8000 pages of reading on a single charge. It has an SD card slot for storage up to 4GB. You can enjoy your stereo collection while reading. It supports all formats and weighs only 7.8 ounces.
They also have one called “Libre ebook reader Pro”. This one does what the others do and more. It has an internal lithium-ion polymer battery for 24 hours continuous use, or 2 weeks standby time. You can also listen to music while you read. Adobe digital edition allows you to transfer copy-protected ebooks from your PC to other devices.

I also found an entirely cool selection of companies that provide nothing more than wardrobe for your Ebook reader! I mean every kind of cover you could possibly want to define your own personal style, whether it be leather or vinyl, fabric or plastic. The clothing you place upon your ebook reader will definitely define your taste! After all, we want to protect these new little devices so they last awhile don’t we?

Whether you want to just read a novel, draw a picture to save, listen to music while you read, or just stay up on the latest news, you can find it out there. Some of them have a QUERTY keyboard, instant downloads, newspaper service, Email service, all format support, huge internal memory, voice recorder, music player, adjustable text size, multiple languages, a diary/memo pad, you’ll find it in the ebook selection that has exploded into the market!

I will no doubt be writing much more detail about all the new Ebook readers and including more detail than ever including price, and where to buy. Did I hear you say reviews? Yes those too! Reading has definitely arrived at a new level, and taken technology along with it. Or is it the other way around…

I decided to write this because there are a few things about the Kindle Ebook reader that I haven’t seen addressed yet. For one thing, I have enjoyed the fact that when I am reading with it, no one can see what I am reading. Although the screen is very well lit, it can’t be seen from the side, so you have complete privacy! No more hiding your paperback title!
Another thing I like is when I’m reading the newspaper, it’s really much faster to hop from story to story with a quick touch of a button! So I can actually read the paper faster than when I have the paper in my hand. I can also skip articles I’m not interested in faster.
I used to ask for books as gifts from my friends and family for Christmas, and now I just tell them to get it for me on my Kindle, and it costs them much less! Since things are tight for everyone now, they like that too!
Oh, and when I’m flying somewhere, the Kindle is so lightweight compared to bringing along a few good books! And the size is really convenient on a plane when the person in front of me puts their seat back, I’m not cramped! I can bring along several good books and still just have the one small paperback size Kindle in my purse!
It’s probably the best investment I’ve made for something as personal as reading is to me. Reading is the one thing I enjoy doing and I like keeping to myself, which is exactly the way you get it with Kindle wherever you are! I almost forgot, having the ability to change the size of the font is great! Sometimes when I’m tired, I like to make it bigger.
Thank you
Maryellen J

By Kristy E (Las Vegas, NV)

This review is from: Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6″ Display, U.S. Wireless) (Electronics)

Kindle!!!

My coveted gadget ever since the day I watched Oprah introduce it to her audience. I wasn’t able to get it, raising 5 kids and all, but I dropped not-so-subtle hints for my husband over and over and over, well you get the idea. This year, just before deer hunting season came upon us, my husband said the magic words, “why don’t you get that Kindle- thingy you’ve been wanting?” Again, I recited the responsible reply, telling him it was just a luxury, not a necessity, I didn’t need it, I have the library…. for the first time, he didn’t just take NO for my answer. He said, “You’ve been wanting it for a long time, you might as well just get it.”
That was all the nudging I needed. Ebook Reader was my instant destination, and before anyone could question whether we could really really afford it, I saw the price had DROPPED to 259.00!! How about that? Now I could say I got a discount! Everyone needs a deal, right?
I haven’t nearly enough time with my Kindle since its arrival. By this I mean, although it remains with me ALL day in my purse, for a sneak moment or two with my favorite authors, but it’s also in my hand all evening until I go to bed. So the obvious solution is to give me more hours in each day to spend more time with it.
This is by far my favorite gadget. I have owned many.
Review of the new film: Know for Yourself, that is taking sweeping the self improvement industry. Following the sensational success of The Secret a new genre of personal success films has emerged. Though Know for Yourself does belong in that genre it brings self improvement concepts to a new level. It is more focused on taking personal responsibility for your results and actually really going after what you have always wanted to have.
The one drawback I have constantly seen with most Law of Attraction resources is they show people why, but fail to show people how to change their habitual thinking. People go away feeling that all they have to do is think positively and focus on what they want. The viewer feels motivated and upbeat about their lives while they watch the movie. This can last for several hours or for some days until situations come up that hurl the person back into their old patterns of thinking. The Law of Attraction principles only produce results if the person applies them consistently, if they change their habitual patterns of thought and reactions.

I always had the opinion that self improvement films would never do more than motivate and inspire, that the very powerful self improvement resources would always be books and courses. However Know for Yourself actually did manage to take a different direction.

The film combines personal success stories from people the world over, and a roundtable mastermind amongst a group of self made millionaires. The structure works well since people respond to stories, they become motivated by stories and stories help them see what?s possible. Nevertheless that motivation can fade out. I feel the value of the movie was in the mastermind group conversation. These powerful leaders and entrepreneurs set a high standard for personal responsibility and laid out what it takes to create lasting change. They discussed a clear path for success and what changes someone needs to make to attain their dreams, but they also made it clear that to get real personal power you should use your influence for good in the world. You have to be the one to hold yourself to a very high standard.

I didn’t get the meaning of the film’s title at the beginning, but I now feel that it was a very apt title. Know for Yourself is about getting out of the herd, making your own decisions and choosing what to believe, not just sticking to the ideas and beliefs of the masses.

The one thing I didn?t like was that the format of the roundtable discussion made some of the better points get lost in the mix. I loved the chance to eavesdrop on a millionaire mastermind, but I found myself wishing they were talking directly to the screen so I could make sure I didn?t miss a word. It was only after I watched the film a second time that I picked up on some of the really powerful suggestions they were making.

I definitely recommend this movie to everyone who is ready to achieve their dream. If you only want to be motivated I would not suggest that you watch this film, because it requires a much higher level of personal responsibility for your results and your way of thinking. This DVD is a fantastic resource for people who are interested in becoming an entrepreneur and want a formula for success. This film should be in the library of all entrepreneurs. But be prepared to take on a higher level of responsibility for your life!

If you would like to Know for Yourself you can get a 20% discount by visiting Know For Yourself DVD and entering coupon code 145405

Ebook Reader Reviews to help you decide.

I finally figured out why some people are happy reading on their i-phone. It is because they really don’t read very much!! Either that or they just like their i-phone for the other functions it performs, which is fine, But I’m talking about serious reading here and the Kindle really has it over the I-phone!

I understand that publishers are making even more books available for the e-readers format and I have already ordered one for my husband for Christmas since he’s always wanting to borrow mine! And oh, did I mention he has an i-phone??

Anyway just wanted to say THANKS AMAZON! I LOVE MY KINDLE!!

Lisa L V

Los Angeles, CA

I was really skeptical about the Kindle until my friend pulled one out of her purse and started reading with it. I was amazed at how much it was just like reading a book! After I got my own Kindle it only got better.

My main concern was the battery power part of it but then I found there was nothing to worry about. With the wireless disabled, the Kindle only uses power to turn the page! It’s just as good as reading a book only it weighs so much less. Amazon’s database is fabulous and I never have to worry about where to put a book when I’m through with it anymore.

Ron M

St. Louis MO

I studied everything that I could find out there about the Sony Ebook reader and the Kindle. Here’s the differences I found:

The Sony holds 160 Ebooks, the Kindle holds 200

The Sony weighs 9 oz, the Kindle weighs 10 oz

The Sony takes 4 hours to charge, the Kindle takes only 2 hours

The Sony sells the book cover separately, the Kindle includes it.

The main difference that I noticed was that the Kindle was easier to turn the page. Sounds silly, but I really don’t want to think about turning a page when reading. I also liked the controls of the Kindle better even though I kinda liked the way the Sony looked. The Kindle also costs a little more, but I found it on sale and I’m really happy with my decision! If I wouldn’t have checked them out in person, I may have purchased the Sony just because of the name I’ve known for so long.

Gary B

Austin, TX

I don’t see what the big deal is, I bought the Sony Ebook reader because I know Sony and I love it! They both basically do the same thing and why try a brand I’m not familiar with when spending that kind of money. So what if the Kindle takes less time to charge, I sleep longer than that! Thanks Sony for another good product.

Todd P.

Ogden, UT

I knew right away when I went into the store and saw both the Sony and the Kindle by Amazon. The Kindle was my first choice. It’s just more comfortable for me, although I’ve always been a Sony kind of gal. I haven’t regretted my purchase for a second! I go nowhere without my Kindle now!
